Somebody had been stealing wood off grandpa's pile. Every couple of
weeks, a few pieces would disappear. Grandpa didn't say a word about it.
He just took a piece of firewood out to his workshop, drilled a hole in
it, packed it with the kind of thing that doesn't belong in a wood stove,
capped it back up, and put it on top of the pile.
A couple weeks later — across town — a thief's stove door blew clean off
the hinges. Wood chunks across the room. Nobody ever stole grandpa's
firewood again.
